Biography:

Laurel Wood is the Director of the University of Kentucky's Center for Disaster Recovery & Resilience. She began serving with the University of Kentucky Police Department in 2011. Laurel oversees long-term enterprise recovery and mitigation from hazards that may cause an operational interruption or cause functional degradation to social, economic, or environmental aspects of the university. Her career began serving a 17 county, 33 city planning and development government organization. Then, she managed FEMA preparedness projects on behalf of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the Office of the Governor, Kentucky Office of Homeland Security. A Kentucky native, Laurel is a graduate of Morehead State University and the University of Kentucky's Martin School of Public Policy & Administration. Laurel has a background in the development of Emergency Operations and Business Continuity Plans, Incident/Event Action Plans, After-Action Reports, Business Impact Analysis, Threat and Hazard Identification Risk Assessments, Crisis Communications, and Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program exercises. She is a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Professional Continuity Practitioner and holds a National Center for Spectator Sports Safety & Security (NCS4) Professional Certificate. Laurel is also a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and is a member of the Disaster Recovery Institute International (DRII).
