Biography:

Rachel Pluviose joined Johns Hopkins University in 2016. As the Senior Director of Risk Management and Insurance, her responsibilities include purchasing and maintaining all property, casualty and management liability insurance coverage/policies for the University and the Health System. She also provides broader risk management advice in support of the University's and Health System’s objectives while interfacing with the entirety of both communities on all insurance matters, including handling of claims and contract reviews. Rachel currently serves as President of Pinnacle, a risk retention group (captive) that provides the general liability for the University. She is also a board member for HEIC, the Health System’s solely owned captive. Prior to joining Johns Hopkins, Rachel was employed as an Assistant Vice President with the Corporate Insurance Department of Legg Mason. Her responsibilities included coordinating Property and Casualty, Employment Practices Liability, Directors and Officers and Errors and Omissions insurance for the Corporation as well as for the 40 Act Funds. She also oversaw placement of the ERISA and surety bond renewals and managed contract reviews for the department. Rachel began her career at Marsh, Inc. in New York then in Nashville, working on large and complex property and casualty programs containing global exposure spanning 35 countries. She continued her career at Sodexho overseeing the surety bond program, client contract negotiations, RFP revisions, and property insurance coverage. Rachel earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in International Business with a concentration in Finance degree from Howard University in Washington, D.C., graduating magna cum laude. She also holds a Master in Business Administration from University of Illinois, Urbana-Champagne. She maintains an insurance producer license for the State of Maryland.
